Berlin
Back to the '20s in a Kreuzburg cocktail bar
"Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome...."
Berlin will always be associated with that movie starring Liza Minnelli, and if you're longing to recapture the decadence of its 1920s cabarets and nightclubs, Kreuzberg's 'Prinzipal' cocktail lounge is the perfect place to start.
Pass through the unmarked door into a low-lit, glamorous world of bartenders in bowties, waitresses sporting feather boas, perfectly mixed drinks and, of course, burlesque performers every bit as racy as in Berlin's Weimar-era heyday.
The Prinzipal describes itself as "a rabbit hole of bizarre and unpredictable wonder", and although cynics might find a reference there to the bar's rather compact size, we prefer to focus on its capacity to enchant.
What good is sitting alone in your room when a place this magical beckons?
