Berlin
A secret vintage toy museum
With covetable playthings piled right to the ceiling, Onkel Philipp's toy shop and repair service is a much loved Prenzlauer Berg institution (chiefly adored, of course, by kids).
Few realise, however, that it also boasts its very own hidden museum - a vast collection of GDR-era toys packed into the cellar.
Ask Uncle Philipp nicely, and for a small fee he'll let you squeeze through a tiny door (below) to gaze at these colourful treasures.
From toy trains to dolls' houses, board games to cuddly toys, this basement wonderland really feels like every great Christmas conveniently rolled into one.

And even if you're a little too large to slither through the rabbit hole, just ask to see a far smaller display of vintage toys handily hung at ceiling height in the main store.
