Berlin
Time capsule: a fabulous Berlin pharmacy
You'd never know it from the outside, but entering this Berlin pharmacy really is like stepping into a different era.
Wares are displayed in wooden cabinets, or tucked inside dozens of tiny drawers. A painted ceiling adds a touch of glamour, with pink-faced cherubs gazing on customers below.
A chemist has stood on this site since 1754, making it Berlin's oldest apothecary. The present interior dates from 1862, and although restored, remains essentially unchanged.
One of Berlin's true hidden gems, this historic time capsule is located at the heart of the city's tourist trail, yet (no doubt due to its very ordinary exterior), goes largely unnoticed.
We're almost reluctant to divulge this particular Berlin secret, as it's a busy working chemist and tiny, to boot.
But if you find yourself in need, say, of something to soothe those aching feet after a day of sightseeing - or even feel like inventing a minor medical ailment as an excuse to gaze while making a purchase - head here for a dose of hidden Berlin along with your prescription.
